Recording Tips
  • Decide BEFORE you arrive what songs you will be recording & in what order... and PRACTICE!
  • Have ALL the instrument and vocal parts worked out ahead of time. (Know your guitar solos!)
  • If you plan to use a click track, make sure your drummer is comfortable playing to it. (To get tight, practice to a metronome at a very slow tempo.)
  • Take care of your body before and during recording sessions. Eat well, get enough sleep, and keep your ears rested.
  • Be ON TIME! Tardiness is not a "musician-thing" - it's a MATURITY thing!
  • As much as possible, use new strings, drum sticks, and heads - and bring spares!
  • Don't use new gear or different equipment that you haven't used before, even if it's "better than what you have". Surprises can cause problems.
  • Do not bring "non-essential" people to the session - they will only cause distraction.
  • Eat before you get there - don't walk in with food unless you're prepared to feed the entire production crew!
  • Have fun, but stay focused! Don't waste yours or the engineers time goofing off!
